In Exile: Surprise Endings | 3-2-2014

Sometimes there is nothing worse in life than a surprise ending. Sometimes nothing better. The life of Joseph is a study in surprises. How do you deal when you set out on one path, but end up somewhere unexpected?

In Exile: Crossing the Lion | 2-23-2014

God’s plan extended beyond Daniel having a cushy job. He put Daniel in this position to set up events that would demonstrate His power. God does this through people. He chooses to use little old us. He could throw fireballs from the sky. But he instead he sends in a lone man.

In Exile: Crossing the Line | 2-16-2014

It’s important to remember that no matter how well we engage with our culture, we are from another kingdom. There will be lines we cannot and must not cross.

In Exile: Welcome to Babylon | 2-9-2014

“The experience that faced the Jewish exiles mirrors the church’s experience today. In fact, the biblical metaphor that best suits our current times and faith situation is that of exile. Just like the Jewish exiles, the church is grieving its loss and is struggling with humiliation.”- Michael Frost We have to make decisions about our faith and purpose – what to hold on to and what to negotiate (default positions are, in this new context, alien). We have to “balance the act of submitting to an earthly authority that is set against God while, at the same time, trusting God to sustain us.”

The Jesus Sessions: Busy

If Jesus’ “yoke is easy and his burden light” but we are stressed out trying to follow HIm, then maybe we’re doing it wrong. One thing is needed. When things go gonzo, find some time to sit at his feet, to take off your self-imposed burdens and take on his.
